amshot’s next art opening, exhibITion: Evolutions in Blue, will take place at amshot, 1300 N Broadway Dr. in Oklahoma City, on Thursday, October 23, from 5pm to 8pm. It will feature new artwork by OKC-based artist Laurel Payne.

Laurel works primarily in watercolor, pen, and ink. She’s fascinated with the environment, human connections, and how experiences shape perception. She earned a double major in Studio Art and Art History from Oklahoma State University.

All wristband donations for food and drink and 10 percent of art sales at exhibITion: Evolutions in Blue will benefit the Oklahoma Monarch Society. The Oklahoma Monarch Society is dedicated to supporting statewide efforts to create and protect habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators in Oklahoma. Guests 21+ can enjoy beer from our local brewery sponsor for exhibITion: Evolution in Blue, Wells, and wine. Light bites will also be provided.

Laurel says of exhibITion: Evolutions in Blue, “The beauty of landscapes, flowers, and the human body inspire me. These subjects speak to me and often cause a feeling of restlessness—a compulsion to offer a visual interpretation of emotions towards a scene or object. Pen and ink application provides saturation, precision, and value through line work while watercolor builds layers, depth, and organic movement within each painting.”

“I do not endeavor to replicate an exact visual copy, instead I strive to offer an interpretation of emotions toward a scene or object with focus on elements of color, line, shape, and value creating a conversation between control and chaos. I am captivated by the paradox of life, which is a mixture of purpose and unpredictability that I try to embrace with my process of combining planned and spontaneous layers,” says Laurel.

What is exhibITion?

As a local business, amshot’s core values challenge the office to empower our community, and local art plays an important role in the Oklahoma City community. At amshot, technology is our business tool and our creative outlet, so our team wanted to support local artists who also use their creative passion as a career.

For attendees, a local art gallery in OKC brings strangers together, inspires us to see the beauty in the world, and encourages even the busiest of us to stop and smell the roses. For the art community, they provide a venue to exhibit art, an opportunity to expand their network, and a platform to highlight artists.

With this in mind, amshot created exhibITion, an art exhibit to promote local artists, give back to the organizations that are making a difference in our backyard, and enjoy the company of fellow art-lovers. Here’s how we do it:

Select a local artist to feature
Every four months, our team highlights a member of the Oklahoma art community. The local Featured Artist assembles a gallery throughout amshot’s downtown office for visitors, clients, and employees alike to enjoy.
Host a gallery opening
We host a gallery opening for the tri-annual featured local artist(s) where attendees can mingle with our Okie artist, view a gallery of their work, purchase the art on display, and enjoy fellowship with the arts community.
Partner with local breweries
Each exhibITion we feature a different local brewery to raise awareness about another form of local art—exceptional brewing! For a $5 donation to the featured charitable organization, guests are served light hors-d’oeuvres and attendees 21+ can enjoy locally-made beer as well as wine.)
Donate proceeds from the event
We donate 100% of ticket sales and 10% of art sales to the featured Charitable Organization.
