romy owens is an artist and curator living in Enid, Oklahoma. Her notable works include Sugar High (2021-22), Under Her Wing was the Universe (2017-2020), Current Studio (2016-18), The Unbearable Absence of Landscape (2014-15), and An Imagined Otherhood (2013-14).
Of exhibITion: The Only Way Out Is Through, romy says, “Myriad conditions around us are in a steadfast state of repetition: cycle of life, songs trapped in our minds, weather patterns, galaxy formation. We tend to repeat our thoughts and actions in a cycle of dwell. Active, consistent meditation brings an awareness for practitioners to the repetitive workings of their mind as they proceed on the path of healthy awareness. That is what this series provides for me, a meditative escape, as I seek to find patterns that will unlock the portal to leave behind what no longer serves me and move forward unencumbered.”
The opening of exhibITion: The Only Way Out Is Through will benefit Calm Waters, a local organization providing services to help children and families cope with grief caused by death, divorce, or other significant loss. All ticket sales and 10 percent of art sales benefit Calm Waters. The brewery sponsor for the opening is OKC-based Vanessa House Beer Co.
