Hey, Buddy — Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 10, 2026
Hey, Buddy is built to be private by design. This page explains exactly what
the app does and doesn’t do with your data.
We don’t collect your data
Hey, Buddy has no backend server, no analytics, no advertising, and no
accounts to create. We (amshot) never receive, see, or store any of the
information you put into the app — the people, photos, names, and tags you add
stay on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, sync only through your own
private iCloud account. That sync is between your own devices, using Apple’s
infrastructure — it does not pass through or get stored on any server we
operate.
What the app stores, and where
- People you add: name, photo, tags, and your own quiz
history (right/wrong counts, last-seen and next-due dates) — stored locally
via Apple’s SwiftData framework, and mirrored to your private CloudKit
database if iCloud is on. - Photos: added via your camera or photo library. We use
Apple’s on-device Vision framework to detect where a face is in the photo so
we can center the crop nicely — this only produces a temporary bounding box
used to frame the image. It does not identify who the person is, does not
produce any biometric signature or faceprint, and nothing from this process
is stored or sent anywhere. - Photo search: if you use “Search for a Photo,” the app
opens an in-app browser to Google Images. That browsing session is subject to
Google’s own privacy policy, not ours — we don’t log or see what you search
for. An image only enters the app if you choose to copy it yourself. - Reminders: event reminders are scheduled as local
notifications on your device using Apple’s notification system. We don’t
operate a push notification server for this.
Camera and Photo Library access
Hey, Buddy asks for camera and photo library permission only to let you
attach a photo to a person you’re adding. These permissions are never used for
any other purpose, and no photo leaves your device except through your own
private iCloud sync.
Children’s privacy
Hey, Buddy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly
collect information from anyone, of any age — see above.
Deleting your data
Deleting a person or tag in the app removes it from your device and, once
synced, from your private iCloud data too. Deleting the app itself removes the
local copy; if iCloud sync was on, your data remains in your private iCloud
account until you also remove it there (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
> manage storage), so it stays available if you reinstall.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the effective date above.
