Featured Local Artist

Spring 2023

FEATURED LOCAL ARTIST:

Mary James Ketch

Amshot’s next art opening, exhibITion: Father & Child, will feature artwork by Mary James Ketch, a contemporary American artist living in Norman, Oklahoma.

The opening will take place at amshot’s new location, 1300 N Broadway Dr. in Oklahoma City, on Thursday, June 15 from 5pm to 8pm. The art opening will coincide with a grand opening celebration for amshot’s new office space.

The opening of exhibITion: Father & Child will benefit Focus on Home, a local nonprofit that provides home furnishings to families in need to help them create a comfortable, dignified home. All wristband donations for food and drinks and 10 percent of art sales benefit Focus on Home.

Mary’s narrative paintings are a visual distillation of scenes of everyday life, in which the figures seem to inhabit a lyrical, dream-like world. She attended the University of Oklahoma before receiving her M.F.A. from the University of Southern California, School of Cinema-Television.

Of exhibITion: Father & Child, Mary says,

Sparked by a terminal cancer diagnosis of my father last year, this collection celebrates the nurturing quality of men.

She notes that fewer artists, herself included, have explored images of father and child compared with mother and child.

Most of the paintings were inspired by photographs that people sent me, so while intensely personal to them, I was looking for archetypal imagery that could speak to many of us,” Mary says. “I’ve also included a few paintings that highlight the nurturing quality in men that are outside the father and child relationship. In a society that values men for their ability to provide and protect, I wanted to broaden the definition of manliness to include the whole person.

We would like to thank our sponsor for exhibITion: Father & Child, Datto. Datto provides products to backup, restore, and protect data; simplify operations; and manage networks. Amshot is proud to be a platinum vendor with Datto.

What is exhibITion?

As a local business, amshot’s core values challenge the office to empower our community, and local art plays an important role in the Oklahoma City community. At amshot, technology is our business tool and our creative outlet, so our team wanted to support local artists who also use their creative passion as a career.

For attendees, a local art gallery in OKC brings strangers together, inspires us to see the beauty in the world, and encourages even the busiest of us to stop and smell the roses. For the art community, they provide a venue to exhibit art, an opportunity to expand their network, and a platform to highlight artists.

With this in mind, amshot created exhibITion, an art exhibit to promote local artists, give back to the organizations that are making a difference in our backyard, and enjoy the company of fellow art-lovers. Here’s how we do it:

  • Select a local artist to feature

Every four months, our team highlights a member of the Oklahoma art community. The local Featured Artist assembles a gallery throughout amshot’s downtown office for visitors, clients, and employees alike to enjoy.

  • Host a gallery opening

We host a gallery opening for the tri-annual featured local artist(s) where attendees can mingle with our Okie artist, view a gallery of their work, purchase the art on display, and enjoy fellowship with the arts community.

  • Partner with local breweries

Each exhibITion we feature a different local brewery to raise awareness about another form of local art—exceptional brewing! For a $5 donation to the featured charitable organization, guests are served light hors-d’oeuvres and attendees 21+ can enjoy locally-made beer as well as wine.)

  • Donate proceeds from the event

We donate 100% of ticket sales and 10% of art sales to the featured Charitable Organization.
